No, no - I think it has more to do with the fact that the remake TV show
sucked, and LRH's golden age republishing effort sold less then zippy.

The REBOOT, the ungodly horrible remake that only aired once, and so help
us will never see broadcast syndication. Hay, at least it's better then
the Lost in Space movie!

The original Battlestar Galactica had a robotic daggit.

Doctor Who had K-9, who also had his own spin-off show (aimed at younger kids).

Star Wars had R2-D2 (it would be difficult to find a more loyal robotic
companion).

Lost in Space had the Robot, who was often little more than a robotic
Lassie ("What Robot, timmy fell down the well again").

Flipping the coin around, Star Trek: The Next Generation had Spot ...
although Spot was a real cat, his owner was robotic.

And in real life, Sony has the Aibo (and various more toy-like and
realistic-looking versions from other companies).

The original Battlestar Galactica had a robotic daggit.
I liked the concept of a daggit. A four legged robot that could travel
over a variety of terrain, scout, and had detectors for sensing and
scanning.

In a race already paranoid of other cybernetic lifeforms, this robot was
given the skin that made it look something like a daggit or dog.

Muffet (I believe the name was given to the robotic daggit) was able to
find lost members on landing parties more than once, find help on a ice
planet when the rest of the human party was unable to travel and on the
edge of perishing. Was also helpful in pulling a firefighter from a
fire once that fire fighter had passed out from the heat and smoke.

In the Marvel comics Muffet pulled Boxy out of a reactor room,
sacrificing itself for its regular human companion. (was painstakingly
rebuilt later in the comic series, but took some doing to rebuild)

Muffet took down one Cylon centurion by biting one in the leg, causing
it to short out.

All and all I would say that Muffet and Daggits were a good concept and
good accessory to have along for landing missions.

Just enough as not to start getting lame. 24 great episodes of mankind's,
and 10 more in 1980... but those ten, they were just sad.

Lost in Space was an epic TV show, it's only when Hollywood producers
with writer's block decide to remake classic rather then do their job and
think up something original!

Yes, the OS was great. Probably one of the best SF series of the
time. I don't count Outer Limits as a series, but it was a one of the
greatest SF shows. But there are a lot of bad movies made from good
shows.

LOL! I'm a big classic BSG fan (love the look, the feel, the hope it
gave despite tradegy, the endurance of the humanity, etc etc etc...)
but one thing that you definitely can't argue with is that the new BSG
did last... four seasons? And the original lasted one great one.
("1980" had some good moments, but I admit, I'm biased enough to stick
around to sift that out...) :P

Classic BSG was forging ahead on some expensive high quality episodes,
and considering the times, I think did good to have one season.

Fan base grew, we had years to see what BSG meant to us all, and when a
reboot was made, they knew it would be worth keeping around for more
than one season.

Classic fans like me didn't care for the new BSG (didn't have the look,
didn't give the hope or the fun that we loved about the classic series,
many have said it would have been AWESOME if it was just not called BSG)
but one thing I have to admit, it did get more a chance to tell a more
full story.

At least Richard Hatch had fun working on it. So I guess the new BSG
is cool for at least that. :)
